Pokemon represents childhood for all those golden eggs around the world, and ever since Pokemon Go was released, everyone wants to go on a journey to the outside world and catch the best Pokemon out there. There are different types of Pokemon, but today, we’ll be shedding light to find those sketchy, creepy pokemon that like to act invisible. This time, we’ll be using our flashlights to conquer their shells and find the best ghost-type pokemon out there.
10. Chandelure
- Generation: [Generation V]
- Pokedex #: 609
It might fool you as a cute, tiny Pokemon, but it’s one you wouldn’t want to take lightly no matter how it looks like. It’s a combination of ghost and fire, which makes its 145 special attack power one that will leave your opponent damaged greatly. Chandelure is the type of Pokemon that burns the opponent’s soul or spirit instead of a body, however, try not to use fire against it if it ever were an enemy, as it absorbs and eats it to make itself stronger. And it does that with its attack, which is in bursts of three, like Will-O-Wisp and Fire Spin. Also, Chandelure has the ability to break walls down easily and it has an immunity to fighting, fire, and normal type of Pokemon.
However, with its insane special attack power, it’s not as perfect as it seems, as it has plenty of weaknesses. If it ever encountered Pokemon with powers of Ghost, Dark, Ground, Rock, Water, it’ll waver around them and leave you defenseless. Make sure to get the best use of it.
9. Rotom
- Generation: [Generation IV]
- Pokedex #: 479
Rotom may not be the best ghost type, but it certainly should be added on your team. It’s best used on defense for its few weaknesses, as it has plenty of resistance against Pokemon types. It’s best described as a flexible Pokemon as it has 6 forms, taking any form your kitchen to your living room, leaving it with more flexible powers each time it sticks itself to something that might be useful. Rotom is generally used as a tank, or an ace up your sleeve if you want ultimate protection. It has the power to electrocute your opponents. For example, Rotom Mow can deal with Spikes, and set up for HP Draining, and Rotom Heat, makes for a great Sweeper
As mentioned before, it only has few weaknesses like Dark and Ghost, which makes it a team player whenever and wherever.
8. Hoopa
- Generation: [Generation VII]
- Pokedex #: 720
Who wouldn’t want the best replica of the God of mischief on their side? If that’s the case, you need this mischief Pokemon called Hoopa. It may come off as cute, but it’s also strong. Hoopa has two forms, one is Hoopa confined, which is the original form, and the other is Hoopa unbound. The only way to evolve to Hoopa unbound is to obtain the Prison Bottle, but it won’t last long, just an amount of three days and it’ll wear off, returning to its original form—Hoopa confined. What makes Hoopa one hell of a good Pokemon is it’s type; it’s a combination of psychic and ghost, which makes it rather competent when it comes to different battle scenarios. Focus Blast and Shadow Ball are Hoopa’s powerful moves, which rank it as a fearsome, strong Pokemon when it comes to special attacks.
Even though, Hoopa doesn’t have much weakness—Ghost, Dark— that will lead to chaos, it can be pretty slow and defense, which make it an easy target to aggressive, strong enemies. So, it’s rather helpful if one chose to finish off their enemies with it, rather than start with it.
7. Mismagius
- Generation: [Generation IV]
- Pokedex #: 429
Most Pokemon are hybrid of some kind, a mixture of types, but Mismagius is a pure ghost type. Evolving from Misdreavus, Mismagius focuses mostly on draining the opponent’s attacking power with a strong ailment, because its cries sound like incantations; those who hear the sound get tormented by headaches and hallucinations. Due to its fast pace, quick speed, it can outpace opponents; the special attack stat is enough to keep it together in a battle. It can grow on you because of it has a solid support and can be used in defense once its ability to Levitate is unleashed.
However, due to its pure ghost-type, it comes off as useless against Dark- types, so, you’ll have to be careful when you use Mismagius.
6. Froslass
- Generation: [Generation IV]
- Pokedex #: 478
As the name suggests, this ghost type Pokemon has another ace up its sleeve—Ice! Not only is it beautiful, but once it’s properly trained, it can be quite powerful. It’s true that it doesn’t give you the satisfaction of having overpower, yet its incredible speed can come in handy once in battle. Add its ice powers like Spikes to the arsenal, put Froslass upfront ready to strike and you’ve got yourself a head start at creating incredible damage with its speed. To maintain a steady lead in your battle, create hazards to slow your opponents down.
However, if you don’t fully optimize your techniques, you’ll be at a disadvantage when it comes to powers and defense, because Froslass has many weaknesses like: Steel, Rock, Fire. So, as any Pokemon, it’ll need a good tactic and a support to be fully taken advantage of its incredible speed.
5. Spiritomb
- Generation: [Generation IV]
- Pokedex #: 442
Cool name, right? It’s dark and mysterious just like its type. Spiritomb is a combo of Dark and Ghost types, so it makes it very useful in combat. Spiritomb is a flexible Pokemon with three immunities and just one weakness to fairies. It comes out with a pretty decent bulk that allows it to be quite an opponent against another Pokemon. Spiritomb has a few attacks up its sleeve, like Pursuit, which can trap a Pokemon that decides to force its way out of a battle. It has access to Calm Mind, which lets it to get extra bulk if ever you need to create special sweeps to stay on the defensive side. To use Spiritomb to its full power, or better use of it, you’ll have to consider doing a hit and run no matter what your morals of a standard fight are.
However, despite all these advantages you’ve got, Spiritomb suffers greatly on the offensive side if it were to encounter an aggressive Pokemon.
4. Aegislash
- Generation: [Generation VI]
- Pokedex #: 681
Aegislash may, by far, be the best Pokemon ever encountered due to its great ability to switch from a tank to a sweeper in no time. It’s a mixture of two types—Steel and Ghost.. On the offensive side, Aigislash is a powerful mixed attacker, counting of 150 attack and special attack. It uses the moves Head Smash for Fire Types and Sacred Sword for Dark Types and Shadow Ball for Ghosts, which lead to it being a special Pokemon with special skills against plenty of types. On the defensive side, its king’s shield can heavily leave the opponent huffing and puffing by dividing all that damage into half; it’s immune to Normal, Fighting and Poison, resists other 9 types.
Despite all that power, it still has plenty of weaknesses against other types like Dark and Ground and two others.
3. Banette
- Generation: [Generation III]
- Pokedex #: 354
Banette is a pure ghost type Pokemon with a creepy smile on its face. This Pokemon was originally a pitiful plush doll that was thrown away. It has 115 attack power and 83 special attack power, so it has a pretty high attack stat compared to other pure ghost types. Banette is immune to Fighting and Normal, resilient to Bug and Poison. Its abilities are Frisk and Insomnia. This Pokemon is famous due to its harsh, dark background story that can totally creep into your heart.
However, this Pokemon is certainly not suitable against Dark and Ghost types.
2. Giratina
- Generation: [Generation IV]
- Pokedex #: 487
This mixture of Ghost and Dragon types Pokemons certainly takes the second position, due to its special attacks that will create a situation in your favor. This Pokemon, if evolved to its next form, it will certainly cause troubles for your opponents. It has great, solid stats and a huge bulk that will be in your favor. The evolved version though, will prove to be more comfortable during combat for the resistance to six types and immunity to three. Giratina has a huge health of 150 and 120 special attack power. That is great for a ghost-dragon type; it can be both on the offensive and defensive sides.
Despite all its powers and abilities, Giratina is prone to be in danger against five types: Ghost, Dark, Ice, Dragon, Fairy, so be sure to add another pokemon that will take care of its misfortunes.
1. Mega Gengar
- Generation: [Generation I]
- Pokedex #: 94
This pokemon is both dangerous and useful once your cards are played right. It’s a huge pressure point on opponents. It can be used in defense as a wall or it can do the opposite job and break the walls of its enemies, for it has excellent special attack and speed stats. It has Destiny Bond, which means it has to sacrifice itself if there is a serious health threat circling around; its strong trapping strategies can be used to your liking for example, Hex Trapper, where Mega Gengar takes advantage of its special attack power as it reached 130 base power, leaving its enemies in a rather critical situation.
Though, its intense bulk can get you in trouble sometimes when it comes to being offensive, and Mega Gengar has its soft spots against other types Ghost, Dark, Psychic.
With that, we seal the deal with this article. There are plenty of other pokemon, and it’s not just about power as one may assume, though it is important, power alone doesn’t suffice. It needs thinking, strategies and backups to form a path that will lead you to victory, so be sure to combine different pokemon on your field.
