All ages, and sexes for that matter. That proves as a part of the reason why Shounen is so incredibly popular, widely admired as well. 10-Shingeki no Kyojin
Centuries ago, humanity underwent the worse fate any eye can witness or survive. To a great amount, people were slaughtered, devoured and murdered by behemoth, humanoid creatures —Titans. Those Titans fed on human flesh just for the sake of their enjoyment. On the verge of extinction, now, the remaining small numbers of mankind lives confined within three heavenly walls.
The latter are so tall and sturdy that even titans could never break in. However, that state was shortly lived, up until the day where the colossal titan made an appearance. He breaches Wall Maria, allowing the other titans to rampage the city, thus leading to another massacre of mankind. Then after, the story progresses around the childhood trio, Eren Jaeger, his step sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend Armin Arlert. They enlist in the survey corps and heartily pledge to avenge mankind after they witness the bitter loss of their loved ones.
9-Gintama
The Amanto, aliens from outer space, have invaded earth, and taken over feudal Japan. As a result, a prohibition on swords has been established. The samurai of Japan were treated with disregard as a consequence. Yet, one man, Gintoki Sakata, still has the heart of the samurai. He works as a Yorozuya. Accompanying him in his shenanigans are Shinpachi and Kagura, whom he later on meets. Don´t forget Sadaharu, too, their oversized pet dog.
Gintama is a master class in comedy writing and variety; a series that grows in originality with every episode. There is no wonder here that it has become one of Sunrises flagship series, not to mention, a mainstay of Shounen Jump. Give it a go, guys. It´s totally worth your precious time.
8-Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
The conflict takes place in the country of Armestris. It is constantly at a state of war, for reasons that are less than fair. What makes this world exceptional is that alchemy is the primary science, instead of the much less fun and flashy science of our own reality. Alchemy allows practitioners to transmute material into other useful things .Amazing, right?!
Our heroes are the Elric brothers; they wish to find the legendary Philosopher’s Stone. Just to gain back their original bodies, which they lost upon their forbidden act of human transgression. In order to search for the stone, they join the military forces. Unfortunately, this means they have to serve under a rather nefarious government, face strong moral dilemmas as well. The Elric brothers don’t wish to take part in the government’s genocidal acts, but they need the military in order to accomplish their own personal goals.
7-Boku no Hero Academia
In an alternate universe, eighty percent of the populace has received superpowers, and evil is running rampant. To fence society from these villains, numerous heroes have emerged over the recent years. They strive to make justice triumph, and bring peace to the citizens. Our protagonist is Midoriya Izuku, a shy 14 -year- old boy. His aim in life was to become a hero.
Unfortunately for him, he is just another ordinary boy. However, after going through a harsh training routine for a solid 10 months, Midoriya gains a superpower of his own. He is finally deemed worthy to join the side of other overpowered teenagers, and enroll at the Hero Academy, thus making his dreams come true. If you love Shounen anime, then My Hero Academia will certainly deliver.
6-One Punch Man
One Punch Man is an action-comedy anime. It tells the story of a man named Saitama. He is a hero just for the sake of having his own share of fun, in a world where monsters and heroes are quite common. Saitama is quite overpowered, and manages to take down anyone with just a single punch. This only serves to make his life quite boring and mundane.
After doing all the heroic deeds, he finds himself, later on, joining the Hero Association to protect society from all evils and threats. Perhaps even find a peer in terms of power. Not only does One Punch Man showcases its shounen-ish aspects in full throttle, it also goes all-out with the heroic antics. This is highly recommended as fun piece to watch.
5-Dragon Ball Z
Five years post his triumph in the World Martial Arts tournament, Goku is now living a peaceful life with his wife and son. This changes, however, with the arrival of a strong enemy named Raditz. He presents himself as Goku’s long-lost brother. He also reveals Goku´s identity, him being a warrior from the once powerful, but now virtually extinct Saiyan race, whose homeworld was completely annihilated.
When he was sent to Earth as a baby, Goku’s sole purpose was to conquer and destroy the planet, but after suffering amnesia from a head injury, his violent and savage nature changed, and instead was raised as a kind and well-mannered boy. Now, he is fighting to protect others. What can we say? This is certainly a blast from childhood.
4-Huner X Hunter
Hunter x Hunter is a classic Shounen that traces the story of four aspiring hunters. They embark on a perilous adventure, fighting for their dreams while defying the odds. Gon is a ten-ish-year-old boy who discovers that his long absent father, is in fact, one of the most famous and respected Hunters in the world. Hunters seek various things, from criminals to recipe ingredients, to rare objects, depending on their individual talents and preferences.
It seems to Gon that the only way he is going to have access to the resources to find, and finally meet his father is to become a Hunter himself. So, he cheerfully sets off to take the Hunter Exam. The series document Gon’s attempts to become a Hunter, and find Ging.
3-Bleach
Ichigo Kurosaki is an ordinary high schooler until his family is attacked by a Hollow, a corrupt spirit, which seeks to devour human souls. It is then that he meets a certain tiny Soul Reaper named, Rukia Kuchiki. She gets injured while trying to protect Ichigo’s family from the assailant. To save his family, Ichigo accepts Rukia’s offer of taking her powers, becoming a Soul Reaper as a result.
As Rukia´s power regain seems impossible, Ichigo is given the daunting task of hunting down the Hollows that plague the town. However, he is not alone in his fight, he is later joined by his friends—classmates Uryuu Ishida, Yasutora Sado, and Orihime Inoue. Each one of them has his sort of ability. Together, they stick as one to defeat all evils awaiting for them.
2-Naruto
This is another childhood classic that we all came to watch for ages. Naruto Uzumaki grew up with the abominable, nine-tailed demon fox sealed inside him. As a result of this, he was rejected and feared by the people of his village. Withal, a spark of flame ignited inside him. To become the next Hokage, that’s what he aimed for.
But in order to do so, he has to master the basics of Ninjutsu, pass through death-defying obstacles, ultimately live by his own ninja way. He goes all his adventures with the company of his team mates, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura. Of course, under the guidance of their sensei, Hatake Kakashi. While this isn’t Your Lie in April or Clannad, this show will definitely hit you right in the feels. All of you who did not watch it yet, stick around and you´ll see why.
1-One Piece
I´m sure at some point in your life, you heard of One Piece, didn´t you? Long ago, there lived a strong pirate king who goes by the name of Gold D. Roger. He was able to gain everything he ever wanted. But alas, he was captured and sentenced to execution because of all his sins. In the brink of death, he claimed that he left the great treasure, One Piece, somewhere in the Grand Line for anyone to claim. This event ignited the Great Pirate Age.
And where is our protagonist? Monkey D. Luffy a.k.a The Straw Hat Pirate. When our boy here ate a devil fruit that turns the consumer’s body into rubber, he sets off to find Shanks, his pirate idol. Only for the sake of finding One Piece, then earning the title of Pirate King. Along the way Luffy gathers all kinds of oddballs for his crew, The Straw Hat Pirates.
