During their childhood, their parents, who were pro-wrestling fanatics, introduced them to each other. Thus, little Hikari challenged Kei to a wrestling match, thinking she’d win for sure, but Kei shattered those delusions.
Ever since that day, Hikari swore to beat off and finish off Kei in anything and everything, grades, sporting events, you name it. Therefore, she enrolled in the same schools Kei went to since elementary. Now, she’s a student at Hakusenkan, an ultra elite school that costs a lot of money.
Due to her constant rivalry, Hikari misses out the ultra golden chance, that being Kei’s love for her. Yet, he seems to find love in her constant rivalry, so is Kei going to confess his undying love to her, or her shenanigans will make him back off?
11. Nisekoi
This anime of 20 episodes will surely make you laugh due to the constant shenanigans the main characters do there. This lovely, lighthearted anime revolves around Raku Ichijou, a first-year student at Bonyari High School. He is an heir, the only one at that, to a very menacing yakuza family. Due to a promise to his childhood friend ten years ago, Raku wears a pendant with a lock, and his fated bestfriend, a girl, holds the key. Yet, they parted ways. Now, that’s all they both have left of each other.
Raku, wanting nothing to do with his Yakuza family and background as much as possible, spends most of his time crushing on Kosaki Onodera. Yet, that peace and romance he once had shattered. He got dragged down a frustrating conflict. Now, he has to pretend his is in a romantic relationship with Chitoge Kirisaki, the daughter of Bee Hive’s chief.
That’s when the romance and comedy begin, as the not-so-very-couple-y-like couple never got together, thus resulting in daily antics; daily fights.
10. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
This lighthearted anime is one of the best romantic comedies in 2014, as it can get you laughing at unexpected times with their very cute gestures. The characters are never lovely-dovey with each other, but they can get rather affectionate in their own ways.
Chiyo Sakura, a high school student, a cheerful one, who fell head over heels for Umetarou Nozaki, who was, in return, as oblivious as one can be. Sakura decides to confess to him on school ground, precisely in their classroom, and much to her chagrin, Nozaki gives her an autograph. To add to her surprise, Nozaki is one of her favorite mangakas, Sakiko Yumeno. The beginning of that misunderstanding leads to other ones, including Chiyo being his assistant.
Through her quite funny adventure, she befriends other people like Mikoto Mikoshiba, who is seemingly charming and sly, but in fact, probably one of the cutest characters she finds.
9. Ore Monogatari!!
This 24-episodic series holds a plot around Takeo Gouda, a very well-built man who is seemingly not so much your average high school freshman. Behind the mask, that intimidating stature, Takeo portrays a very warm-hearted, and could take, easily, the qualities of a samurai. However, these qualities do not help that much with his life, as judgement based on his looks pursues him. Not to mention, Makoto Sunakawa, his charming, handsome best friend steals away all the chances, if he has any.
After he saved this cute, lovely girl called Rinko Yamato from molesters, he is instantly head over heels for her, yet, again, he is afraid and suspecting that she just might love his bestfriend Makoto.

Risa, a 172cm tall girl, taller than your average girl, just wants to find a guy who is taller than her and is kind to her. On the other hand, Ootani is a shorter than average type of guy, as he is 156cm. Much to their disdain, both of their crushes fall in love with each other, resulting in getting their hearts broken.
The two of them are labeled as the comedy duo of the class, as their striking personalities and heights clash, resulting in constant arguments. However, Koizumi and Ootani make a deal on who will find his lover first, which gets them closer to each other. In addition, they find refuge in each other due to their similarities, and just maybe find love as well.

What would Nanami do with all these powers and responsibilities? Then, a yokai familiar, who is a fox demon that goes by the name Tomoe refuses to help her, a human. Yet, once their contract is sealed with a kiss, he has no other choice but to serve and help her from any supernatural harm. Their clashing personalities are what make it funny to watch.
6. Kaichou Wa Maid Sama
This rom-com is one of the cutest, funniest, and most dramatic ones. The story portrays the high school student Misaki Ayuzawa, who is the first female student body president. Her nickname is the Demon President, hence her strong, vicious character, or rather Tsundere one. Her strict, punctual demeanor is soon shattered once her secret is revealed. That being a maid in a Maid Café due to the harsh financial reality she lives in.
Her life turns upside down when the most popular boy at school, Takumi Usui, discovers her secret. Being the sadist he is, he forces her to do whatever he asks so he does not tell everybody what she does outside class. That’s when the romance begins, perhaps from her part, and perhaps from his!
5. Toradora
Another anime that portrays the hella Tsundere Taiga Aisaka, hence the nickname Tiger due to the similarities is Toradora. Besides Taiga Aisaka, there is another main character, that being Ryuuji Takasu, who just loves doing housework. Irony is best drawn here, as Ryuuji has a rather fierce appearance thank to his father, but a warm heart in reality. However, Taiga appears as a small and cute girl, but portrays the actually opposite, dangerous and spirited.
The co-protagonists discover that they live next to each other, and have crushes on the other’s friend, which results in a cooperation to help one another. Their help to gain love for the other’s friend do not only prove to be futile, but maybe as just not meant to be, too. Along that road, there is plenty of comedy, shenanigans, and drama that awaits patiently in each episode.
4. Ouran Koukou Host Club
Haruhi Fujioka starts out her first day, in the first episode by being rather unlucky. She attends the elite Ouran Academy, and not only does she not fit well, but she does not come from a very rich family. Haruhi usually goes unnoticed, yet all that changed after she was aimlessly wandering for a quiet place. She stumbles upon a music room, which is the base for a host club, and accidently breaks off a very expensive vase. With no way to repay them, she joins the club after being mistaken for a boy.
Her life does not only change as she becomes the only girl in a boy’s host club, but she also stumbles upon something more important, more heart-warming. Perhaps that’s love among all the comedy they give, but who is exactly the one in love with her?
3. Oregairu
If you examine it closely, sometimes high school is the worst time and place one can be in. Especially if you feel like an outcast or the black sheep, or someone who has an empty love life. This is the exact case of Hikigaya Hachiman and his morbid view of life. After mentioning to his teacher that not working is his life goal, the teacher forced Hikigaya into the volunteer club.
This club is hosted by the school’s beauty, Yikinoshita Yukino, who has a very special view on life in general. This anime portrays love, struggle, comedy, friendship, and all that jazz, but the mix can be quite intriguing.
2. Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun
They say pain changes people, and loneliness does, too. Shizuku Mizutani, however, is just simply apathetic towards anything and everything but her grades. Thus, she goes by the name ‘Dry Ice’. Her cold demeanor, though, alters as a very asocial Haru Yoshida enters her life. Yet, despite not attending school for quite a while, Haru is rather intelligent, so he soon became her rival.
Haru, who does not know how to interact with people, befriends her and soon confesses his love for Shizuku, bringing her world crumbling as she struggles with her true feelings. Together, they go through each other’s pages and chapters, learning and possibly start yearning for one another.
1. Nijiro Days ( Rainbow Days)
What if your break up with your girlfriend on Christmas is not exactly the end of the world? Natsuki Hashiba experienced just that. Luck was on his favor this day, as he met a girl, who would soon be his. Perhaps just his potential lover. Nijiro Days is a colorful anime that portrays the lives, whether romantically or not, of four high school boys.
Natsuki is a sweet, kind, delusional boy who admires loves. Tomoya Matsugana is a narcissist, playboy who is in love with making girls fall for him and his charms. Keiichi Katakura is a sadist, who’s in love rather kinky things, especially if it has a whip included. And finally, Tsuyoshi Naoe, an otaku, cosplayer, who love roleplaying with girlfriend. Despite being quite a short anime, it is quite amusing, hilarious even to watch.
Romantic comedies are one of the most wanted series out there, especially in anime. People tend to watch them for the sake of the mixture and clash of romance with comedy. This list, provides just that, but perhaps it does not, like any list, cover all those favorites out there. If we did miss out on worthy anime, do not hesitate to comment.
