Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is not really that regular romance anime, in fact it´s different from that. In a nutshell, this is exactly why everyone loves it. While most anime, if they have the romance element, tease you by implying character feelings with subtle interactions, but no real physical connection such as a kiss. Without spoiling much, Kaichou doesn’t exactly have a lot of physical connections either, however it’s bluntly put that you´ll simply fall in love with it. It literally defines your anime dream romance which is why this left us always on the lookout for materials that resemble it. Friends, we´ll provide you with a list of fifteen anime that are similar to Kaichou wa Maid-sama. Let´s start!
15-Boys Over Flowers

When she doesn’t let herself be beaten by them and starts to fall for one of the F4, Hanazawa Rui, then and only then does she begins to realise that there is more than meets the eye. Ultimately, Hana Yori Dango is a series that should not be skiped by serious romance, and anime fans alike. It’s a very intense series; it will likely stir up just about every emotion there is for our dear viewers.
14-Itazura no Kiss

With Kotokoto not being a complete stranger to Irie-kun, her past comes haunting again. The latter was due to a love letter from her that went unnoticed by Irie.
Throw in some quirky friends and a nosy mother, and Kotoko might not even stand a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the older boy’s heart. Yet, Kotoko remains optimistic , because she now lives in his house. Her unattainable crush on the genius since the beginning of high school has never been more within reach. But can things change? We´ll see.
13-Fruits Basket
The story starts with Tohru Honda, the as average-as-you-can-get Japanese girl. She has lost her mother in an accident, now having to live alone in a tent in the Soma’s estate. Of course she wasn’t aware of that until they told her; to her surprise, they took her in exchange for her doing all their housework. It’s when she’s there that she discovers the family’s biggest secret.
The family has been cursed by the vengeful spirits of the Chinese Zodiac animals. When they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex, they transform into the animal they were cursed by. When Tohru comes in their lives, they all learn to open up more. They, also, realize that not all people in this world are bad, as this plain girl affects each and everyone of them in a unique way.
12- Kareshi Kanojo no jijou
Miyazawa Yukino is the perfect student. Kind, intelligent, pretty, and modest`-too good to be true. Little did everyone know, Yukino’s perfection was just a façade, an act to fulfill her hidden desire for praise and admiration. Her life took a turn, however, as a newcomer to their school, Arima Soichiro, topped the exam rankings.
Arima is more than just intelligent, he’s also kind, handsome and modest, an unbelievable person who actually exists, flesh and bones. Arima later finds out Yukino’s secret, resulting in blackmailing her to help him out. Their odd relationship soon develops into friendship, eventually progressing into love. But an their relation prevail through the many problems that come their way? If you aren’t normally fond of stereotypical high school love stories, try giving Kare Kano a shot. It’s recommended, however, to continue with the manga after watching the anime, if you want to see how the story ends.
11-Skip Beat!
Based on the best-selling shoujo manga by Yoshiki Nakamura, Skip Beat follows the growth of a young woman. She slowly unlearns how to work herself to the bone for the satisfaction of others and takes hold on her future instead. Skip Beat! showcases the lovely, young Kyoko Mogami as she travels miles and miles across Japan to support her childhood friend Sho, in his debut as an all-star.
She blindly bails him out from every single sticky situation. Later on,she finds out he’s only been using her for her delicious cooking, and wife-like skills t. Better off, he is allowed to do that because he is The Fuwa Sho! Fortunately, Kyoko doesn’t think so, no, at least not anymore. It’s rare to see any show about anything from anywhere as concerned with human dignity as Skip Beat! is. Let’s have a second season already.
10- Ookami shoujo to Kuro Ouji
I´m sure you all heard of the phrase ‘don’t bite off more than what you can chew.’ Haven´t you? Figuratively speaking, if you get a plain girl aiming for that dreamy guy, then that’s more than what they can ask for. Meet Erika, the main female protagonist of this series who is exactly the plain-Jane. Then, we have the dream guy named Kyouya Sata.
With those prince-like looks, it’s no wonder every girl wants to be his girlfriend. However, this show isn’t about a perfect romantic get-away with these two. No, it’s quite far from that. Wolf Girl Erika and Black Prince Sata unites two characters in a story of drama, abuse, and teenage youth by two complete opposite strangers. Overall, the series has enough merits to warrant it being a good shoujo anime.
9-Special A
From the very start, you´ll get hooked. Hikari is not the usual clumsy, slightly dumb, female protagonist. She’s a warrior, and a fierce one basically. Learning the art of wrestling since a very young age, she managed to defeat everyone. Then she meets Kei, only then the tables are turned. Her sole mission becomes defeating Kei in every aspect of life.
Several years later, they reunite in High school, part of a class of nine students who are the elite of their school. Hikari, of course, is number 2, something that she loathes, because the number one spot is reserved for no one other than her arch nemesis/rival, Kei. What she doesn’t know is that Kei is in love with her. And so, the story begins.
8-My Little Monster
The chemistry between the two main characters would be best described with a quote that so many of us have probably related to once in our lifetime, “Opposites attract.” Shizuku is a study enthusiast whose main goal is to get good grades. Haru is a semi-delinquent that does whatever he thinks is entertaining,he often gets himself into trouble.
As they get to know each other, Shizuku and Haru slowly begin to understand themselves as individuals , thus bonding as friends. They are able to assemble their own group of oddballs to form their own little niche. The art while nice and clean, there are beautiful aspects and moments that are really amazing. The animation is absolutely, stunningly crisp in this one.
7-Lovely Complex
The story is about the tallest girl and the shortest boy in class and their quest for love in high school. It turns out they’re both kooky, funny, and energetic. They’re also perfectly fit for each other. Too bad, they don’t realise that. The story isn’t complicated or new, but it istold so well that it´ll crawl right into that soft spot in our hearts.
The romance is built slowly and gradually over time. By the end, you’ll be head over heels for them, since the creators did such a great job of laying down the foundation. But, most importantly, it actually shows you how their feelings grow and bloom over time. You´ll see a friendship begin, a moment happens, interest blossoms, awareness grows. You´ll truelly get to know Koizumi and Otani over the course of the show, we bet you even that you´ll be rooting like crazy for them.
6-Ore Monogatari!!
“Sometimes people are beautiful. Not in looks. Not in what they say. Just in what they are.” The quote is amazingly fit to portray the whole series. It’s such a nice love story, in a way. Ore Monogatari!! , also known as My Love Story, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a story about love between two main characters – Takeo and Yamato. At first glance, they look like a mismatch. It doesn’t take a genius to realize as the two look nothing alike.
Takeo looks like a professional sumo wrestler standing nearly 7 feet tall while Yamato has the appearance of a fragil schoolgirl. However, the story is more than just about appearances. Because in this love story, destiny connects them in ways that really give the word ‘love’ its important, sincere meaning.
5- Ouran High School Host Club
Looking for a show to laugh your butt off? Look no further, Ouran High School Host Club will not fall short in that aspect. All the characters are uniquely lovable. Each person has it´s own specific traits, and without a doubt, their own problems they need to deal with and overcome. Everyone has their favorites, too, so, within a few episodes, you’ll be rooting for one person to get with the other.
The Character development and the enjoyment level were the biggest pluses for Ouran. It keeps you entertained nearly the whole way through. It’s almost impossible to not enjoy this piece. The ending is great and the lead up to it is very well-done. Want to feel good and laugh at the same time, check Ouran out.
4-Kamisama Hajimemashita
In a nutshell, Kamisama Hajimemashita AKA Kamisama Kiss is based on the manga of the same name. The series tells the story of a young girl named, Nanami Momozono who is lonely, abandoned and helpless. The innocent little lamb makes an interesting encounter with a strange man, Mikagi, and from then and there her life changes for good. But wait, it doesn’t stop there. She also encounters the big bad wolf, or rather familiar Tomoe.
Along with him comes the package of two other spirits, Onikiri and Kotetsu. After a contract sealed by a kiss, the two form a peculiar relationship. Now, the two must traverse the path of godhood together as god and familiar. But, it will not be easy, for new threats arise in the form of a youkai who wants to devour the girl, a snake that wants to marry her, and Nanami’s own unexpected feelings for her new familiar.
3-Ao Haru Ride
The plot plainly surfaces around the, somehow, past two lovers, Futaba Yushioka and Kou Tanaka. Due to a simple misunderstanding, they had to undergo a dire separation. It leads them both to go their separate ways, with Kou enrolling to another school. During high school, Futaba tries to change abruptly by acting against her soft, girly nature just to blend in.
Unbeknown to her, the upcoming days will make her stumble upon a blast from her past. That, roughly being Kou, who now goes under the name Kou Mabuchi. His current character goes against all what he ever was, as he makes a 180-degree change. This anime will make you laugh, cry, and will leave you wanting to RE-RE-RE-RE-REWATCH it over and over again! Deffenietly add it on your to-wach-list.
2-Kimi ni Todoke
Kuronuma Sawako is completely misunderstood, missplaced by her classmates. Her timid and sweet demeanor is often mistaken for malicious intentions. This is due to her resemblance to the ghost girl from “The Ring,” which has led her peers to give her the nickname Sadako. Longing to make friends and live a normaly, she is naturally drawn to Kazehaya Shouta.
He is the most popular guy in class, whose “100% refreshing” personality earns him great admiration from Sawako. So when Kazehaya starts talking to her, maybe there is hope for the friendships Sawako has always longed for. Maybe…there is even a little hope for some romance in her future. “Reaching you” is suitable, as no other words could have been the best title for this anime. A lovely one too .
1-Toradora!
Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a love for housework. In contrast to his kind nature, he has an intimidating face that often gets him labeled as a delinquent. On the other hand, Taiga Aisaka, a small, doll-like student, portrays anything but a cute and fragile girl. Equipped with a wooden katana and a feisty personality, Taiga is known throughout the school as the Palmtop Tiger.
One day, an embarrassing mistake causes the two students to cross paths. Ryuuji discovers that Taiga actually has a sweet soft side. She also has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who happens to be his best friend. But things only get crazier when Ryuuji reveals that he has a crush on Minori Kushieda—Taiga’s best friend! One can certainly imagine how things get crazier from then and there.
Do give our list a try, dear friends. We sincerely hope that you´ll enjoy this watch, make the most of it, ‘cause we assure you, you´ll be having a free ticket to the fun land. We´ll meet next time with a new list. Cheerio!
Hi,
I really enjoyed and had tons of fun reading and watching both the anime and manga of “Kaichou Wa Maid Sama”. As for the rest, I really like all of the proposed Animes, and I actually read most of them (Skip Beat, Itazura no Kiss, Ookami shoujo to Kuro Ouji, and others). My favorite is Kamisama Hajimemashita which I still sometimes read when I miss the characters especially the “big bad Wolf” (hhhhhh! I just adore him).
Thank you for all the effort and keep up the good work.
